After I retired in 2017 I had the opportunity to shoot a few rounds of trap with some buddies ... well it didn't go so good so I started looking for someone to give me trap shooting lessons. The search led me to Paul Herbein, a prominent local lawyer and also a well-known shooter in the local shooting community. He had me meet him at a local sporting clays place ... ( I had never heard of sporting clays) ... told me to "look at the bird" .. and I was hooked!

A few month later I found myself at Tuscon Trap and Skeet , was stuggling shooting sporting clays and inquired about lessons there ... I got a call from non other than Gebbin Miles ! He gave me a lesson the next day and my shooting life and story changed forever.

Since then I've had lessons from Jared Rumor, Anthony Materese and my curent mentor is Brian Featheringham , who teaches at Sarasota Trap, Skeet and Sporting clays. Since I've recently (2026) become a "snowbird" ..traveling to Florida for the winter months, having lessons with Brian will be much easier and I'm looking forward to expanding my skills ... PS ..I met Brian because he ran the Level One Sporting Clays course I took in 2024.
